WHEELED MOBILITY

The Importance Of A Good
Wheeled Mobility Assessment

Obtaining a wheelchair or other mobility aid is a decision that should be given a lot of thought. Most insurance companies have certain requirements for eligibility (decreased mobility, degenerative or physical limitations that are a result of a physical disability). Many also have limitations on how often you may replace your existing aid.

A wheeled mobility assessment, completed by a licensed therapist or physician specialist is an essential prerequisite for funding. Factors such as height, weight, hand strength, and use all must be taken into consideration. In addition, the specific disability will determine which mobility aid will give the best result.

PEDIATRIC FACILITIES

VITALSTIM THERAPY

A new treatment for swallowing disorders!
VitalStim is a new treatment technique developed by Marcy Freed, a speech language pathologist at University Hospitals in Cleveland. This newly approved technique utilized electrical stimulation to the anterior throat and facial muscles to facilitate swallowing function in both child and adult clients. The VitalStim Therapy unit is the only clinical or portable system with FDA clearance for application of electrical stimulation to the muscles of the throat. With a documented success rate of over 90%, this new therapy treatment option offers a very promising option for individuals who have never developed or have lost their ability to swallow food, liquid and even their own oral secretions. Great successes!

MR/DD
Contract services are available to facilities, agencies, and group homes serving individuals with Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (MR/DD). Therapists delivering services to these sites include Occupational Therapists and Assistants, Physical Therapists and Assistants, and Speech and Language Pathoogists.
